Mackenzie and her buddy David

I took Mackenzie to her 4 Month check up today and learned that she isn't gaining enough weight. She only gained 10 oz since the last time I took her in almost 2 months ago! Her weight is now 10 lbs 12 oz. The Dr. wants to see her again in 2 weeks and durring that time I am going to supplement her feedings with formula. If that doesn't work she may need medication for her Reflux which makes her spit up a lot of her food. Other than that, she looked fine! Her height is 24 1/4 inches now so she is still growing in height just fine. Just the other day took out all of the 0-3 month clothes and replaced them with 3-6 but it is kind of a conflict because she is too long for the 0-3 but too skinny for the 3-6. I guess things will just be a little baggy on her for a while. :)

i'm glad your doctor is on top of things and that you're going to supplement a little more so she doesn't become unhealthy. it is scary when babies don't gain weight or lose weight since they weigh so little to begin with!
Amber, the same thing happened to me with Joelle and I broke down crying at the appointment because the pediatrician tried to strong arm me into supplementing with formula. I refused to do it and when I got home I called Kaisers lactation consultant and she was also very unimpressed with the Dr's method of fattening her up. She told me to just pump my own milk after feeding her and "top" her off with my own milk. She never ended up wanting more than what she nursed anyway so it was all really silly and she is completely fine now, she gained weight just fine. Formula is not bad I just try not to put things made in a lab into my kids bodies. Drs are wonderful but most are about quick fixes rather than natural ones.
I forgot to tell you how cute she is!!
Wow! It's already been 4 months!!! She is so daing cute! Hope everything turns out great and she begins gaining weight.
she is such a cutie. put a little rice cereal in her bottle once a day and she should gain weight.
Sorry, I guess I need to add my own advice in here since everyone else is. I think BreeAnne is right (I am anti-formula too) but it is a lot of work. I would say no to putting cereal in her bottle- if you introduce cereal too early you can subject them to childhood diabetes and there are a lot of negative consequences from letting your baby suck their solid food from a bottle. My advice, drink a bottle of water between every nursing and get on a nursing schedule (every 3 hours until she gains more weight and then you can go to every 4 hours). It will help with your milk supply and it will help with her gaining weight and sleeping through the night. That is my 2 cents.
