I love these kids

I don't know if its just me, but my kids seem extra cute lately.
Sadie has such a tender heart, she is very sensitive. She probably gets that from me. At least the sensitive part, the tender heart is probably Jason... We have to be careful when we laugh if she says something cute because she thinks we are laughing at her and she gets very upset. She also has lots of questions about religion lately. Sometimes she will ask me if Jesus said it was ok if we do whatever it is we are doing that day. She has been asking for me to read the stories out of the Book of Mormon to her. I read a children's version of it to her that has a condensed story and pictures but she has been wanting me to read out of the book she got from Nana and Papa for her birthday. I was avoiding it because I thought she was too young and would get bored but the other night after I put all the kids to bed, I went upstairs to make sure she was asleep and this was how I found her.

I think I should start reading it to her. :)
Braden seems to really be growing up. He has been more careful around cars, not running into the street like he used to and instead waiting for me to walk with him. Even at church he has been waiting for me to walk with him to the car instead of darting out the doors alone as people open them to go in and out. (What a relief!) He really loves Mackenzie too. I think that has really helped with his growing up to, because he doesn't seem to through *as many* tantrums as he used to now that he has accepted his new role as big brother. He asks to hold her occasionally and is very protective of her.

What a sweet brother!
When Jason was building a fire in the fireplace the other day, Braden was very eager to help. There wasn't much he could do of course but he did get super excited when the fire got going good. He was very impressed with his daddy. It was so cute when he put his arm across Jason's neck as they watched the fire.

And then of course my baby is the cutest little cuddle bug. She is such a good baby. I think she is going to be a timid girl. She smiles at everyone but when they try to talk to her she hides her face in my shoulder. She isn't crawling yet, but rolls everywhere. I also love listening to her baby babble. I love being a mom!!

6 Month Check up

Mackenzie had another checkup yesterday. Just like all my kids she is in the 20 percentile for weight. She has really been picking up with her weight gain compared to where she was a few months ago. She LOVES eating. As soon as the spoon gets near her mouth, she grabs it and pulls it into her mouth. Then she gets so mad when I take it away to get more food on the spoon. We have increased her bottle feedings to 6-8 oz as well. Her height is about average I think. The person who measured her was off (she marked her foot at least an inch away from her actual foot) so she measured in the 70th percentile for height. It looks like Sadie is going to be my tall one for sure. She is in the 80th percentile for height while Braden is in the 20th percentile. Poor little guy. Jason tried to say that he got it from my side, but we both have from 5'2 to 6'2 in our immediate family. Who knows. Here are some 6 month comparison shots just for fun:

Happy Birthday to my Hubby!

This post is for you, Honey ;) You may have thought you successfully dodged the camera all these years, but I've dug up a few of you...

When I first met you you were 23 and I was 18. Then on my 20th Birthday we got engaged. You were so romantic. You made up a song and sang it to me on the beach while playing the guitar.

Here's our engagement picture:

I don't think we've changed too much since then. But a lot has happened since then. We bought our first house and you started your business. We went from the two of us to a family of 3

A family of 4

And this year we have 1 more!To my surprise you made it through each of their births (except 1 because you were late) and you didn't even pass out! ;)

You are a great provider for our family.

I've only had to brake you out of prison once so far...

You are a good daddy to our kids

You are multi talented.

I love your goofy side

And your less goofy side ( think this is actually your "don't take my picture" side)

I love you! Hope you had a Happy Birthday! (And many more...)

Chrismas Tree Hunt

We have this tradition of getting a certain kind of tree for Christmas. We usually buy them out of one of the tree lots in Antioch. It's called a "Silvertip" or Red Fir and they are different than the usual Christmas trees because the branches are layered on the tree and you can see through to the white trunk all the way up the tree. Here's some of our previous trees:

This year we were going to cut our tree in Idaho with my family while we were there for Thanksgiving. It's only $5 for a 10 ft tree and $10 for taller if you cut it down yourself in the mountains! We were planning on leaving for home on Saturday after we cut one down but after loading everything up and starting our way to the mountains we decided that it was going to be to late getting home for us and the kids. So we said our goodbyes and started our way home without a tree. Sadie was so upset since she was dressed to hike in the mountains for a tree and the whole way home she was looking at the "Christmas tree potential" of every tree we passed. Once we got home we looked into places you can cut down your own tree here in California and we finally found this one that had Silvertip trees(and other varieties as well). It was at Tahoe. This place was so cute! Its defiantly going to be a new tradition to go here to get our trees. They had all these cute old buildings, one was a gift shop and they also had cookies, fudge and hot chocolate. They have this HUGE see-saw you can try out. It wasn't far off the donor pass but you drive one this one lane road into the forest along this spring. Once you get to the parking lot, they take you in the back of these old Jeeps into the middle of the tree farm to get your tree.

I have never been to a tree farm so I expected rows of trees and just going up and down the rows to find the tree you want. It was actually just a big forest that they continuously plant new trees in. The kids LOVED the hunt.

It was an adventure to wander throughout the trees and slide on fallen pine needles down small hillsIt was so warm we took off our hats and and gloves and sweaters. Here's Braden's hat head:

Jason cutting our tree:

It was actually a 30 ft tree we cut down to a 17 ft tree! They charge by the ft. but don't charge the amount you cut off the original cut. They take the trees back to the parking lot in the jeeps once you are done.

The tree did fine on the way home, they netted it up for us so it wouldn't be blowing all the needles off on the way home. Here's the finished product:

Its not at full as previous trees. Probably because we cut off the bottom half of the tree! The whole adventure of getting the tree is my favorite part anyway!
