Christmas: The good, the bad and the ugly

It's been a while since I've posted so I guess I need to do some catching up. Sorry, I have limited pictures because I was trying to do video at the same time. Let me start with the good:

Overall our holidays were good. We spent time with Jason's family on Christmas Eve. Jason's parents put together some wonderful appetizers, dinner and dessert. I ate very well over the holidays and I'm sure if I had a scale I could prove it! The kids all opened their presents from Nana and Papa on Christmas Eve which they loved. It was fun spending time with most of Jason's family because even though they live close by we don't see them too often. Braden loved playing with all of his boy cousins, since he is surrounded by girls at home.
That night Sadie left cookies and milk for Santa and food for the reindeer too. On Christmas morning they were both very anxious to see what Santa brought. Braden was really into opening his presents this year and was so excited about everything he got. Sadie liked all of her presents too, but wasn't feeling really good so she didn't seem as excited about everything. :( After opening presents we went to Jason's sister's house for breakfast (again, so much good food!) and then came back to our house to visit with my brother and his family. We had a lot of fun playing the Wii (our Christmas present) with them. They taught us how to use it since we never had even played one before. So if anyone has Mario Kart we challenge you to a race (You can connect to other Wii's wirelessly! I can't believe all the things you can do with the Wii, its pretty cool.)

The bad:

Sadie ended up sick the day before Christmas Eve with some kind of cold or flu. Colds flare up her asthma so she has trouble breathing when that happens. I felt so bad for her because I know she had been looking forward to Christmas for the longest time and then when it finally came she felt miserable. :( We found out that Mackenzie has the same problem when she caught it a couple days later. At least we already knew what to do!

The ugly:

After spending our afternoon playing the Wii & hanging out with my brother I went upstairs and stepped into the hallway that leads from the Master Bedroom to the Master Bathroom and stepped into a POOL of WATER! Apparently the toilet had gotten plugged (with toilet paper, so glad it wasn't plugged with anything else!) and the stopper wasn't in place so the water just kept running all afternoon until it had completely flooded the bathroom with gallons and gallons of water. We tried sponging it up with towels and went through all the towels and hadn't even made a dent in the pool of water. So we got out the shop vac. No luck with that either. It was just too much water for that. Finally I remembered we had Jason's parent's carpet cleaner which did a wonderful job sucking up the water! But while I was working on that Jason yelled for me to get downstairs. The water had flooded the dining room and part of the wood floor in the living room. We used the carpet cleaner to suck up all that and got the big fan Jason uses for work running in the room to dry it out in effort to keep the wood floor from buckling. Next, we look up at the dining room ceiling and there are bubbles in the ceiling and at least 2 spots where the water is coming out of the ceiling. We put buckets under them to catch the water and Jason opened one hole up so that it would drain out of that hole instead of gathering up and creating more problems. We moved the dining room furniture hoping that the ceiling would hold up but not knowing what to expect. The grossest part - the water drained down the vent in the kitchen and into the MICROWAVE! Yuck! Once it stopped dripping in there I had to take it all apart and sanitize everything with disinfectant. While all this is going on the kids are having breakdowns because they don't understand what is going on. Craziness. But it was only a few hours of our Christmas. Oh, and the ceiling didn't fall in, the wood floor didn't buckle, it actually turned out not so bad considering all the water we picked up!

I AM SO SORRY YOU GUYS HAD SUCH A BAD EXPERIENCE!!! What a bummer! I hope it didn't ruin all of Christmas. On the lighter side, at least it cleared up after all of your hard work! I had a toilet explode on me at work about 8 years ago, remember where I used to work? Inside that little control room??? Well, I couldn't leave the control room, and the water was about 5 inches deep! i sat in the middle of the room on a chair waiting for it to end and for some help to arrive. It was pretty grose. Anyway, glad it all worked out, hope you guys are doing well- we'll talk to you soon!

On the bright side, you guys didn't set your house on fire this year! I would say water is better than fire. Still sucks. I am glad it didn't damage anything too horribly.
We have had the colds going around too and Ryli had asthma with illness when she was 2 and now Cade is getting it. I even had to take him to the emergency room a few weeks ago. Luckyily Ryli out grew it so I am hoping Cade will too. They are all still all snotty and coughing so we are having the eternal winter colds and our house. Around and around we go.

How come you didn't think to get out your camera as your house was filling up with water;)j/k. Sounds like you guys had a good Christmas. Except for the whole water thing of course. I love the holidays just for the excuse to get together with family (most of them anyways:) At least you have pictures to remember your holidays!
